Alleged Harasser Asked: 'But Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a recorded message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court was told call records and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and continues to be unresolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate voicemail, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to discover," she added.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the information, advised the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."
The court was informed the co-defendant struck up a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be considered genuine in the months leading up to the visit to Rothley, the county, in last December.
The court was told correspondence between the two defendants, in November 2024, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their house, the defendant transmitted a communication which stated: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I wanted to achieve this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial proceeds.
